The challenge

The Telstra Health Clinical Manager system faced several critical issues within its wound charting functionality. Users struggled with identifying observations by type and aligning the system with key industry standards. Challenges also arose in accurately charting wound location, type of wound , measurements, and repetitive tasks emerged due to a lack of communication between system components.

The approach

  • Conducted user interviews to identify specific needs, pain points, and challenges in wound observation, measurement, and workflow processes
  • Led industry research and analysed industry standard documents to ensure compliance with key standards
  • Implemented a phase-based approach to deliver quick enhancements to clients, allowing for incremental improvements while keeping the long-term roadmap in focus
  • Performed market research, specifically focusing on wound location selection and measurement
  • Facilitated stakeholder workshops to review requirements, align on objectives, and collaboratively define the project scope for an optimised and efficient solution

The Outcome

Redesigned key aspects of the wound chart, including charting options, wound location, and standardized naming conventions, as well as adding a feature to compare wound photos, change the location and type of wound. The wound chart uses a phased approach, with future enhancements related system work flow such as pain assessment, task alerts, and expanded reporting options to be implemented in the next phase.

  • Developed key visual design differences based on the wound observation type
  • Improved accuracy in selecting wound locations, leading to clearer reporting through standardised naming conventions
  • Introduced a wound photo comparison feature, enabling users to track improvements visually over time
  • Introduced editing option for wound location and type of wound
  • Matched industry standards by incorporating precise configuration settings, ensuring compliance and consistency across the system
  • User testing was highly successful, with overwhelmingly positive feedback on the design and functionality
